How to channel your inner voice for better decision making
Religious holidays are a great opportunity for resolution and change, closing doors and opening others, in business and in life. Intuition can help you get closer to your true calling.
My 16-year-old daughter - my pride and joy, has recently been accepted to an excellent international boarding school away from home. As her mom, letting her go was hard to do, and I’ve since been missing her like crazy. But after sharing her inner calling with me for a new academic challenge and change, I realized that her wingspan has grown and that as her mom, the right thing to do was to let her fly and embrace her transformation.
My 16-year-old is not alone in her calling for change. Since the first Covid-19 lockdowns in 2020, numerous testimonies on personal and professional change have aired online; corporate employees who became self-employed, business owners who became hired employees, and professionals who reinvented themselves. This is no coincidence: in all forms of energy, every sudden stop calls for a new rhythm or motion. So, when the entire world stopped and stood still, people perceived this as a call to reconnect with their intuition and reevaluate their lives.
From “female hysteria” to phenomenal business tool
However, the term intuition suffers from lousy PR. I’ll never forget the workshop I facilitated in a global tech company several years ago. “Intuition is a great managerial tool to use when systematic data collection isn’t fast enough to make quick decisions”, I said to the participants. The CEO rolled his eyes dismissively. “Intuition”, he claimed”, is merely female hysteria”.
“Intuition,” I insisted, “is a cumulative set of managerial know-how and experience, which causes managers to respond instinctively in face of an event or challenge, while retrieving previous knowledge from their memory bank storage”.
The constraints, conflicts and political interests we’ve experienced throughout our professional careers resulted in intolerable clutter, which clouded our inner wisdom and made us afraid of creating change. This is precisely the great advantage that intuition has over facts and figures: it doesn’t calculate, it has no ego and it speaks the truth, without fear.
From fear to play
Fear has an important role in our lives. It’s a survival tool that keeps us from making mistakes. But quantum leaps happen by overcoming fear. This can be achieved when we peacefully allow our inner calling for change to be heard loud and clear. And here’s the twist: when we make change and follow our hearts desire, we will no longer work a day in our lives. We’ll play.
Holidays are an excellent time for authentic internal conversations and brave decision-making. Ask yourself who you really are, what you want to do, what’s best to finish and what’s best to start. When you close a door, do it with gratitude, and when you open a new door, do it with excitement and joy. Happy holidays.
